2013 Leadership Forum Overview

10 Top Highlights from This Year’s Supply Chain Leadership Forum

I still have Tompkins Supply Chain Leadership Forum on my brain. As we reached our highest attendance in the nine years we have hosted the forum, the event was our most successful to date.

Here are my top 10 favorite highlights from the August 26-28 forum:

  1. Record-Breaking Attendance
We reached our highest number of attendees ever this year. With more than 100 participants across a variety of industries, the networking opportunities were top notch.
  2. Overlooking the CNN Center at the Opening Reception
The forum kicked off Monday evening with a reception overlooking the CNN Center—not a bad view! Attendees took some time to relax and meet up with old and new peers.Attendees enjoying the reception overlooking the CNN Center

  3. Engaging Breakout Sessions
The forum boasted 15 breakout sessions on a variety of topics, from talent management to alternative fuel sources. If you were at the forum, which session was your favorite?
  4. “Facing the Titans” Premiere Keynote
My keynote on “Facing the Titans” was unveiled. It discusses how to combat the disruptive forces of Walmart’s omnichannel success and Amazon’s same-day delivery. Don’t miss the latest video that explores this topic—watch it here.
  5. Exclusive Presentation from Coca-Cola Refreshments
After lunch on Tuesday, the group learned about the challenges facing Coca-Cola Refreshments as it brings new products and technologies to the marketplace. This lunch keynote was led by Lee Beard, VP of Procurement Operations at Coca-Cola Refreshments.
  6. Panel Discussion with Top Industry Leaders
Tompkins International’s Gene Tyndall moderated an insightful panel discussion that focused on the future of supply chains from a variety of perspectives. I was joined on the panel by leaders from One Network Enterprises, 3Gtms, LLamasoft, and UPS.Panelists from One Network Enterprises, Tompkins International, 3Gtms, LLamasoft, and UPS

  7. Awards Dinner at the Georgia Aquarium
Have you ever dined alongside beluga whales? Leadership Forum attendees can check that off their bucket lists. Our Tuesday evening dinner featured some “aquatic guests” as we enjoyed a presentation by one of the aquarium’s knowledgeable experts.Awards Dinner at the Georgia Aquarium
  8. First Ever “Women in Supply Chain” Dinner
The forum’s inaugural “Women in Supply Chain” dinner event took place Monday evening after the opening reception. I heard that the group enjoyed an engaging and relevant conversation (as well as a few laughs), and it’s encouraging to see that the supply chain world continues to attract bright, experienced women.Women in Supply Chain Dinner

  10. Closing Session Takeaways
It’s always great to conclude an event with a couple great takeaways to keep in your pocket. The forum wrapped up with a “Lunch and Learn” session that recapped the sessions and key points.
