The recent Executive Seminar 2007 - Supply Chain Leadership Forum, sponsored by the Supply Chain Consortium, brought together some of the world's brightest supply chain leaders. Held in Orlando, more than 50 supply chain executives from 21 of the top U.S. retail and industrial companies participated in the two-day Benchmarking & Best Practices seminar.

Attendees included vice presidents and directors in logistics, distribution and transportation, as well as in other key supply chain areas. Topics such as inventory management, freight routing, security, international 3PLs, distribution center labor management, and peak and temporary labor were high on the agenda. In total, 28 sessions were offered. There were also classes facilitated by the Consortium covering online tools "how to" with a search, query, and PeerNet focus, along with sessions on the latest dashboard and strategy development tools.

Breakout Session

Peer group networking, a focused curriculum and access to Tompkins Associates' expertise were highlights of the event. Jim Tompkins, President and CEO, Tompkins Associates, captivated the audience with his keynote presentation of Bold Leadership for Organizational Acceleration, touching upon inspirational leadership, business resiliency and core competencies. Michael Zachary, Tompkins Associates' port expert and a member of the Department of Homeland Security's COAC group, opened the event with the timely issue of supply chain security. It's Peak Season - Do You Know Where Your Supply Chain Is? targeted the top ten port and maritime issues and maritime industry "hot points."

During a reception and dinner, the Consortium presented two types of awards: Bold Leadership in Benchmarking & Best Practices and the 100 Hits Club. The Bold Leadership in Benchmarking & Best Practices award recognized the top six companies who entered the most B&BP data, while the 100 Hits Club award recognized the top six companies who accessed the system 100 or more times since the beginning of the year. Winners of the Bold Leadership award include Target Corporation, THQ Inc., Smart & Final Inc., Cabela's Incorporated, Tyson Foods, Inc., and Sony Logistics America. 100 Hits Club winners include ExxonMobil, Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Cabela's Incorporated, United Supermarkets, Ltd., Target Corporation, and ETC Demo Sony Logistics America. Congratulations to the winners for their outstanding B&BP leadership!

The seminar wrapped up with the innovative Emerging Technology Center Learning Experience at Tompkins' Emerging Technology Center (ETC). Attendees were able to get a first-hand view of the latest in picking technologies, RFID, material handling equipment and software and how it all integrates to improve supply chain performance.
